We can learn alot about someone by what type of curtains they use. To be more specific even, how they use them. I came to this conclusion today as I daftly tried to figure out how to get the curtains I want. I don't know how to sew, much to my grandmother's dismay. Herein lies the problem; who will make them? I know the stores I shop at don't carry what I am looking for. I want texture, weight, folds, and embellishments... in very specific colors, of course. Yes, you guessed it, I am high maintainence. Maybe a bit dramatic and grandiose... But, less about me. When shopping for a drape or curtain we need to ask ourselves. Will we need only a valance? I think this shows confidence... a stark window with no protection and a little colorful fluff or sash to show "I WANT exposure, neighbors be damned!" Then there are the weighty drapes that trail to the floor in all their rich glory. These seem to proclaim a there is a protective barrier between a home's occupants and the outside world. 'Velvet is just the beginning of our opulence, don't even try to guess what sort of delicious creature comforts we enjoy regularly-- look away!'
Embarrassingly, function is completely obliterating form in my home right now. I LOVE form... but I also love being comfortable. So we have bubble wrap covering the windows to keep the heat in during the cold and those are covered with shades to keep out the sun. It's a disaster but at least I can go without pants. I'll leave you with that positive thought. #nopantsnoproblem
